Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (1) vs. Derry (2)

The Stampede are a rather new team this year, but you wouldn't know it from their performance today. They played very well considering they aren't yet used to each other.

With Bari in net for the first half, the Stampede came out strong, pressuring Derry. Amy got off the first early shot for the Stampede and Bari had a good save on an early Derry shot.

The Stampede got on the board first when Michelle sent in a cross and Ashley put it into the back of the net to put the Stampede up 1-0.

Derry came right back with a goal of their own to tie the score at 1-1.

The Stampede got another good shot from Michelle that was stopped by the Derry keeper.

In the second half Nicole replaced Bari in net.

Derry managed a second goal to put them up 1-2.

The Stampede got off a couple good shots from Amy (good high ball that was stopped by the Derry keeper) and Michelle (just wide of the net).

Melissa had some good strong clearing kicks for the Stampede defense.

Bari was tested on a high shot by Timberlane, but she made a good save.

The only goal of the contest was scored at the end of the game when Stephanie took a pass from Ashley for a breakaway and made it count, slotting the ball past the keeper to give the Stampede the 1-0 win.

Londonderry Tournament

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (1) vs. RC United (0)

The Stampede played a hard fought game against a very good RC United team and came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

With Bari in net during the first half and good luck charm Kari (every time she stepped on the field as sweeper, all the play moved to the other end of the field), the Stampede were ready to win.

After a slightly slow start, with most of the play in the middle third of the field, the Stampede got going with some excellent passing, with all the girls contributing.

Melissa continued her strong presence at sweeper with a excellent break up of RC United's first charge down the field. Hillary's speed was great and she shuttled around stopping the RC United forwards from getting off any shots.

The first half ended with the score tied at 0-0.

The second half was almost all Stampede. They pressured RC United very well and kept the ball in RC's end. About midway though the half, Michelle received the ball on the right side, faked a defender and sent in a low cross. Ashley, Emily and Stephanie were all waiting in the box and Stephanie slotted it home.

RC United didn't gain any control until the last couple minutes of the game when the Stampede defense began to collapse in and the ball pinballed around inside the 18-yard box. With only a couple seconds left in the game, an RC United player drilled the ball across the box to 2 waiting RC United players. Bari followed the ball across the net and pounced on it before a shot could be taken. It was an excellent move on her part and earned her a skinned knee, aptly tended to by Coach Peter following the game.

The Stampede prevailed, 1-0 in this hard fought game.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. TriTown (0)

The Stampede's second game of the Londonderry Tournament had them facing TriTown. The girls didn't look quite as sharp in this game as they they did in the first game, but still played well.

Nicole started in net, but was replaced very early on by Bari (before a shot was even taken).

The Stampede recorded the first shot on a good chance by Stephanie that was stopped by the TriTown keeper.

Much of the first half was in the Stampede end of the field, with TriTown pressuring constantly. It seemed every time the Stampede touched the ball it bounced to a Tritown player for some very unfortunate luck.

Shortly after Bari's entry into net, TriTown had their first shot on which Bari made a very good save.

The Stampede had a few good chances to score and were very close a couple times, but the TriTown keeper came up big with saves. Emily, Michelle and Amy had a couple good shots over the course of the game.

In the end it was a hard fought for tie.

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Hopkinton (1)

In their third tight game of the tournament, the Stampded faced Hopkinton. To get to the finals the girls had to defeat this team.

The Stampede had some nice early passing and looked good.

In the second half, Bari replaced Nicole in net.

The Stampede put together a good long string of passes that took them right up to Hopkinton's net, but the ball was scooped up by the Hopkinton keeper.

The girls had some good chances on corner kicks, but they weren't able to find the back of the Hopkinton net and the game ended in a 0-1 loss for the Stampede.

Regular Season Games

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (2) vs. Timberlane (0)

Although the Stampede controlled the overall play for most of the game, there was a bit of back and forth, with Timberlane pressuing the Stampede just as the Stampede pressured Timberlane.

Bari started the game in net and didn't see a whole lot of action before she was replaced by Michelle midway through the first half. Michelle continued in net into the second half.

Amy notched the first goal on a pass from Tasha, giving the Stampede that all-important 1-0 lead.

Later in the first half, Tasha fed Michelle who broke in and scored the second goal for the Stampede.

Shortly after that, Amy brought the ball down the right side and sent in a great cross, only to have it snapped up by the Timberlane keeper.

Tasha then had a breakaway that was well stopped by the Timberlane keeper.

Aimee came very close to scoring. After taking a short pass from Stephanie, she quickly turned and shot. The keeper deflected the shot and it dribbled over the end line just barely wide of the post.

On the resulting corner kick, Stephanie ripped off a shot that the Timberlane keeper again deflected, and again, it dribbled just inches wide of the post.

Hillary, Melissa, Meghan and Kari (who spend the majority of their time in the back) all played well on defense, keeping the ball away from the keeper. This kept the midfielders busy. Strong midfield play from Nicole and Tasha (both of whom, it seemed, had about 1000 touches on the ball today) helped get the ball pushed forward into Timberlane's end of the field.

The midfield and forwards kept up their fantastic passing throughout the game, with some nice work coming from Emily, Stephanie, Ashley and Amy.

Michelle was only truly tested once on a hard, face high shot that she stopped well.

The play of the game had to have been Kate's header stop of a shot by a Timberlane player. Very well done by Kate and much appreciated by the parents.

In the second half, Tasha relieved Michelle in net for the remainder of the game.

The Stampede held on to their 2-0 lead for their first regular season victory.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Hopkinton (1)

The Stampede faced a tough Hopkinton team, one who had beaten them at the Londonderry tournament. The Stampede were looking to come out with a victory.

Michelle started the first half in net and was kept pretty busy. Hopkinton started it off with a good high shot that was slapped down my Michelle. The next high one was just a little too high for Michelle's (very) outstreched hands and Hopkinton went on top with a 0-1 lead.

Michelle made another couple saves and stopped a couple crosses coming into Hopkinton players.

Some solid Stampede passing led to the first shot by Amy, a good long effort that was stopped by the keeper. Shortly after that Amy had another shot that was just wide.

Nicole replaced Michelle in net. The next Hopkinton foray into Stampede led to a shot blasted away by Kari. They returned and Nicole made a good save on the shot.

The Stampede had a good chance with a flurry of feet hammering away at the ball inside Hopkinton's 6-yard box, but the keeper managed to get the ball.

In the second half, Tasha replaced Nicole in net. The Stampede managed a corner kick, but the Hopkinton keeper was there for the save.

Tasha was tested in net on a Hopkinton breakaway, but she charged the player and caused a bad shot that went wide. Well done Tasha!

There were a few more chances for the girls, but they couldn't quite get the ball past the Hopkinton keeper.

At the very end of the game, with only seconds left, Alexandra made a great shot that got past the Hopkinton keeper, but a defender just managed to get in and get a foot on the ball to send it over the end line.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Concord(6)

The sideline reporter missed this game, but it was said not to have been one of the best games the girls played this season. Concord was a tough team and racked up 6 goals for an unfortunate loss for the Stampede.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (3) vs. Hopkinton (0)

In their third match against Hopkinton, the Stampede came on strong and played solidly as a team. Passing was spectacular from all the girls.

The defense, Melissa, Hillary, Meghan and Kari kept the ball away from the keeper enough that Bari, Michelle and Tasha's time in net was very uneventful.

The midfielders did a great job of keeping their heads up and getting the ball forward. Kate had a couple of excellent flick-on headers that sent passes from defenders right over the Hopkinton midfielders to the Stampede forwards.

Emily notched the first goal on a low shot the Hopkinton keeper couldn't get a handle on.

Shortly after that, some excellent passing from the girls got the ball to Ashley and she broke down the right side. She saw Amy coming down the middle and, even though she could have taken the shot herself, made a perfect pass over to Amy who, alone against the Hopkinton keeper, didn't miss. The Stampede were now up 2-0.

The third and final goal for the Stampdede came from Michelle on and excellent example of not giving up. A shot was taken at about the 6-yard box (unsure who made the shot), and the Hopkinton keeper couldn't hold onto the ball. Michelle kept moving in and knocked it past the keeper to put the Stampede up 3-0.

Later in the game a fourth goal was called back on an offside ruling. The Stampede continued the pressure throughout the game, taking many shots and generally outplaying Hopkinton with their extra effort and hustle.

In the second half, Nicole spent a lot of time in net and made a number of good saves, hanging onto the ball well and making some excellent clearing kicks.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (5) vs. TriTown (3)

Another impressive game for the girls who put on both a great display of passing and teamwork throughout the game. Their work on passing created them a number of excellent scoring chances (on many of which they scored).

And all those chances would not have been there had the defenders not done such a good job of stopping TriTown and getting the ball up to the midfielders. The midfielders kept their heads up, found the forwards moving down the field and the forwards took the time to look for good passes.

Bari and Michelle shared goalkeeping duties in the first half.

The Stampede went on top quickly, notching 3 goals in the first half. Ashley started it out with long shot. This was followed by a great corner kick from Michelle that Tasha knocked into the net.

The third goal of the first half came when Stephanie raced around a couple of TriTown defenders to find herself alone with the keeper and pushed the ball past the keeper and into the net.

At the end of the half, there was a huge flurry of activity in front of the Stampede net and TriTown managed to get the ball past Michelle for their first goal of the game. At the half, the Stampede were up 3-1.

In the second half, Nicole and Tasha shared goalkeeping duties. TriTown came on stronger in this half, keeping both Nicole and Tasha busy making good saves.

Michelle started the half off well, taking a perfect pass from Emily and sending the ball into the net to put the Stampede on top 4-1.

TriTown started to come on strong and scored on a fantastic shot from one of their forwards that just rocketed past Nicole. It was a very nice shot and Nicole didn't have a chance.

The Stampede had a couple more chances after some nice passing down the field led to Stephanie taking a great shot that the TriTown keeper saved. Shortly after that, Stephanie sent in a nice cross to Michelle who shot for the far post, but the ball went just wide. Very well done.

TriTown scored again on a high shot that Tasha jumped for and managed to get a couple fingers on, but it was just a little too high and went over her and into the net. Certainly not for lack of effort on her part.

On their next run down the field, Michelle took a nice pass and managed to get past the TriTown defense and sent in a low shot that set the final score at 5-3 for another Stampede victory.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (2) vs. TriTown (0)

The Stampede faced TriTown again and defeated them again in a tight, well played game on both sides.

TriTown showed why they were a good team as they pressured the Stampede throughout the game. The Stampede, however were up to the challenge and their defense and midfield held strong. Passing from the girls was spectacular today.

    Bari started off in net.

Emily started things off in the first minute by taking a great through pass from Stephanie, weaving past a couple players and knocking the ball into the back of the net to put the Stampede up 1-0.

Emily added her second goal of the day, another unassisted shot. After the TriTown keeper had picked up the ball and attempted to clear it from the top of the 18-yard box, she missed the ball, Emily scooped it up and sent in an easy shot to put the Stampede up 2-0.

TriTown's best chance came later in the first half during a big flurry of activity in front of the Stampede net. Bari jumped on the ball and appeared to take a boot or the ball in the stomach and was down. The action didn't stop and Melissa came tearing across the 6-yard box to get the ball out before the group of TriTown players in the box could get a foot on the ball.

After this, Bari had to leave the game and was replaced by Michelle. Through her time in net, things were quiet. Towards the end of the half, Tasha came in to replace Michelle in net.

Alexandra made a couple of fantastic runs up the sideline, getting past a few TriTown player.

In the second half, Tasha started out in net and early on was called upon to make a couple saves. TriTown spent much of the second half in the Stampede end of the field.

Later in the half Nicole replaced Tasha in net and made a couple nice saves herself.

With only about a minute left in the game, someone sent a great pass up to Tasha who easily got past the last TriTown defender and went in alone against the keeper, but the ball got just ahead of her and she wasn't able to get a good shot off. It was still a great play to watch and the Stampede finished with a 2-0 victory.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (2) vs. Timberlane (1)

In their third meeting of the season, the Stampede and Timberlane put on another great game for the parents. This time on a rather cold and windswept field in Atkinson.

Tasha started off in net for the Stampede.

The Stampede started the pressure quickly in the first minute when Michelle and Emily worked together to get the Stampede's first chance at a goal. Very nice passing.

The Stampede kept up the pressure and, during a big flurry of activity in front of the net, Stephanie got the ball to Michelle and she poked it past the Timberlane keeper to put the Stampede up 1-0.

Towards the end of the half, Bari replaced Michelle in net.

The Stampede's last chance of the half was a nice close shot by Michelle, stopped by the Timberlane keeper.

Bari remained in net during the second half.

There was a brief incident where a witch hat suddenly flew onto the field. Mr. Taylor came to the rescue and removed the hat before it could do any damage.

The girls continued their nice passing with one particular instance where Michelle threaded 2 Timberlane defenders with a perfect pass to Emily in front of the net, but the Timberlane defense shut Emily down before she could get off a shot.

Stephanie had a fantastic run, pushing the ball past the last defender for a great breakaway, but she couldn't quite get off a solid shot. It was still an impressive piece of work.

Nicole sent in a long kick from way outside that the Timberlane keeper just managed to hang onto.

As Timberlane began to push down the field, there was a lot of activity in front of the Stampede net and a shot got past Bari who was screened at the time. This tied the score at 1-1.

The Stampede weren't resting. They got a free kick on a handball just at the edge of the 18-yard box. Nicole took the kick and drilled it past everyone and into the net. The Timberlane keeper barely saw it coming. Stampede up, 2-1.

The last big chance of the game for the Stampede was a great outside kick from Emily, nice and high. The Timberlane keeper made a great save, just getting her fingertips on the ball and pulling it in.

Melissa, Meghan, Nicole, Kari and Amy (in for Hillary) put on another great defensive display, keeping the chances to a minimum for Timberlane. Nicole was all over the field and Kari had a couple very nice clearances.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. MISL (5)

A tough beginning for the Stampede, facing the Division I MISL club who appeared to have made the Stampede a little nervous in the first half. MISL was a very good team and went on to win the tournament, leaving every other team with a 1-2 record, including the Stampede.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (1) vs. Dover (0)

Bari started in net for the Stampede as they looked for their first win of the tournament.

Early on the Stampede looked good with some nice work up front from Amy, Emily and Nicole. Nice passing and teamwork, particularly on a superb give and go between Amy and Emily that resulted in a nice shot, saved by the Dover keeper.

The one goal of the half (the only goal of the game for that matter) came when Stephanie did a great job of moving the ball up in Dover's end of the field, getting past a few Dover defenders. At the last second, inside the box, she pushed forward a short pass to Michelle who quickly picked her spot and sent the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half Tasha replaced Bari in net and was immediately called upon to make a quick save.

The game continued to be very even with lots of good midfield work from both teams.

Later in the half, Nicole replaced Tasha in net and made a couple very nice saves herself.

The game ended in a 1-0 victory...but wait! The game was not over! The referee called everyone back in the bitter cold for another 5 minutes because he'd accidently ended the game too early. This was the most stressful 5 minutes the parents have endured this season! Dover just took it to the Stampede and spent the majority of that 5 minutes in the Stampede's end of the field, drilling shot after shot at Nicole, who was outstanding.

The Stampede held on for that dreadful 5 minutes and emerged with a well deserved victory.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Stratham (2)

A touch game for the Stampede. They played very well against a strong team but couldn't quite come away with the victory.

Bari started in net and was soon replaced by Nicole. One of Nicole's early clearing kicks gave the Stampede one of their best chances of the game. The kick led Stephanie perfectly who managed a breakaway, but the Stratham keeper managed to stop the shot.

The game was 0-0 at the half. Early in the second half, one of the Stampede players cleared the ball from their penalty area and a Stratham player whacked the ball. It went very high, over Nicole and just made it under the crossbar. An unfortunate way for the Stampede to go down 0-1.

The goal seemed to take a bit of the wind out of the sails of the Stampede. Later in the half Stratham managed another goal to set the final score at 0-2.

The girls finished the tournament 1-2 but everyone had a great time (even at the pancake breakfast - yes that's pancake, not pancakes) and many of the girls can't wait to return to York again.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Concord (3)

In their last game of the regular season, the Stampede faced a powerful Concord team - one that had beaten them 0-6 in their last meeting. The Stampede were ready for a better game today.

The girls played an excellent game with some great passing in the midfield and very nice defense, but Concord was simply a better team and defeated the Stampede 0-3.

Michelle had an excellent early chance, but a superb diving save by the Concord keeper kept the ball out of the net. This was to be the Stampede's best chance of the half.

Bari spent the first half in net and played great, one of her best games to date. She made a number of excellent saves.

Concord's first goal was on a high cross/shot that Bari got a couple fingers on. This kept the ball out of the net, but another Concord player was there for a second shot. This went high over Bari, but still not in the net. As the Stampede scurried to get the ball out a Concord player managed to knock it in.

The second Concord goal came when Concord had parked themselves in the Stampede's 18-yard box and were just pounding away. A shot that Bari probably never saw went whizzing into the net.

In the second half, Bari split netminding duties with Tasha and the parents were treated to a brief time of obstructed view seating thanks to the Taylor's beach unbrella! Once the rain calmed down, our unobstructed view returned.

The Stampede pushed hard and had a couple good chances, with one coming on a fantastic cross from Ashley that a Stampede player (Amy?) just couldn't get a foot onto. Nicely played though.

The final goal came towards the end of the second half and left the Stampede with a 0-3 loss in their final game. They still made the playoffs and will likely face the D1 MISL team on 11/3.
