Londonderry Tournament

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (1) vs. Manchester (3)

A little too early in the morning for the girls, but they put in a good effort. Newcomer Beth had a good game in defense and at midfield.

In the first half, Manchester picked up the first goal when the Stampede defense didn't quite pull off the offsides trap. Michelle equalized in the second half, taking a long pass (passer unknown) and ripping off a shot from just inside the 18 yard box.

Later in the second half Manchester picked up a second goal and just as the game ended they managed a third.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (1) vs. Scarborough (3)

A much more solid game for the girls and against a far better opponent. The girls were more awake, their passing better and all around play-making much better.

Melissa P held up strong in net making numerous saves and warding off attackers. Alexandra, Katie and Beth all had very good games.

The Stampede took it right to Scarborough, with Ashley and Michelle both getting off solid early shots. Scarborough came back with a goal midway through the first half, but the Stampede defense held well.

In the second half, center defender Melissa A went out with a pulled muscle. She was ably replaced by Amy.

A late game free kick from just outside the 18 yard box led to Scarborough's second goal. The kick was high and to the corner so there was nothing the wall or Melissa P could do about it.

Overall a fine performance by the girls.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Bow (2)

A much closer game than the previous two games, the 0-2 score does not adequately reflect the overall game. Bow picked up a goal in each half, the first one being nicely set up, the second one coming off an indirect kick at the edge of the 6-yard box for which the Stampede were not adequately prepared.

There was more good play from the defense which held up well and good passing from the midfield. The forward made a number of good runs and got off a few good shots, some very close to going into the net. Lots of excellent hustle from Aimee, Nicole, Lindsay and Amy.
