Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (4) vs. TriTown (2)

An excellent beginning for the Stampede in their first indoor game. Solid performances from everyone even after a few months off following the Fall 2001 season.

The Stampede kept control of most of the game, but had trouble finishing early on. Still, they were getting the ball into TriTown's end and getting some shots off...and it was more than the Stampede defense of Melissa, Hillary, Bari and Alexandra would let up.

Bari started the half in net and Nicole took over midway through the half. The two switched off again in the second half. The Stampede are fortunate to have 2 solid keepers on their team.

Late in the first half, it was Michelle who put the Stampede on the board. Shortly thereafter, Tritown countered with one of their own.

In the second half, the Stampede continued their overall dominance and racked up 3 more goals, with one each coming from Stephanie, Michelle and Nicole.

TriTown did managed a second goal, but the Stampede defense wasn't letting much through and the balls that did come through were well handled by Bari and Nicole.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (3) vs. TriTown (3)

That was fun, a little bit of everything. We were so "on" in the first half. Great goaltending, our usual rock solid defense, and simply phenomenal passing (both made and attempted) up front. I thought sure that 2-0 lead would stick...It was a beautiful half of soccer.

We fell apart a little, in several places at the start of the second half. Giving up a lead and falling behind can be devestating. However, i was really impressed with the way the girls picked it back up, got the equalizer...and then created several outstanding attacks. Their goalkeeper was the best we've seen. That one diving save to the side would've scored against any other. It was just a great game.

The girls that joined tri-town to take on the older team did quite well. When you consider that they all just played a tough game, and that they didn't know each other as a team, it was pretty cool. When Alex got that goal to tie at 1-1 in the first half...the girls were really taking it to them. Everyone played well, special mention to our goaltenders. Best darned 4-1 loss i've seen!

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (9) vs. NGSA U-10 (0)

The Stampede, minus a few key players, played an excellent game against the NGSA U-10's today. Given that the U-10's are a division below the Stampede, the result was pretty much as expected, however, the Stampede still played first rate soccer. Passing and playmaking were outstanding.

Both Alexandra and Amy T had big games today as they each got a hat trick. Stephanie also had a big game with 4 assists in addition to a goal of her own. The high number of assists shows her excellent teamwork in setting up her teammates so well.

Bari started the game in net and had a very quiet time as keeper. She was replaced midway through the half by Michelle who also had a very quiet time in net.

Amy T and Hillary started out very strong on defense, letting virtually nothing through. Early in the game, Stephanie, Michelle and Alexandra quickly made themselves a number of good scoring chances. The Stampede's first goal came when Stephanie sent in a pass to Alexandra who sent it into the back of the net.

Shortly after that, Alexandra pushed through a defender herself and sent in a hard shot for the second goal. Brittany got the third goal off a deflection.

Brittany then fed Amy T who drilled in a shot to put the Stampede up 4-0.

Late in the half, Amy T and Alexandra were very solid on defense, stopping all the chances for the U-10's.

Stephanie notched another assist when she made a great wall pass to Amy T that Amy put away with ease to make the halftime score 5-0.

In the second half, Aimee L ripped off a very hard shot that deflected off the crossbar. One of the U-10 player batted the ball and Kari knocked it into the net. The handball was called and Kari took the penalty kick. She sent a solid waist high shot home for her first goal of the indoor season.

Stephanie and Alexandra combined for another goal (another very nice back wall pass by Stephanie) to put the Stampede up 7-0 and giving Alexandra her third goal of the game.

Stephanie and Amy T combined again with another back wall pass for Amy's third goal of the game.

Stephanie's work setting up her teammates was rewarded when Aimee L returned the favor. With Aimee rush down the right side with the ball and Stephanie making the center run, Aimee threaded a pass between 2 defenders and Stephanie one touched it into the net, making the final score 9-0.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (3) vs. Bedford (2)

While the 2 teams seemed evenly matched, the Stampede generally overpowered Bedford.

Bari, Michelle and Nicole all shared time in net during the first half.

Bari had a generally quiet time in net, while Michelle was flooded with shots during her stint. She did an excellent job and made a couple impressive saves.

Emily joined the Stampede today and played very well. Early on, Emily, Kari and Nicole had some good shots.

Alexandra put the Stampede on the board first, taking a long pass from Ashley for a breakaway. She very patiently slotted the ball past the Bedford keeper. Impressive job keeping her cool and being patient.

Shortly after that goal, Stephanie's speed bought her a breakaway, but her last touch was a little too heavy and the Bedford keeper scooped up the ball before she could get a shot off.

Towards the end of the half, the Stampede was giving some very intense pressure to the Bedford defense. There were many shots and many chances and the ball stayed in Bedford's end much of the time.

Nicole started the second half in net and quickly ran into some bad luck. A bad defense clearance off a Bedford player sent the ball into the middle where a Bedford player had a 1-on-1 with Nicole. Nicole quickly charged to cut down the angle, but the shot got past her to tie the score at 1 each.

Stephanie had a couple more good shooting chances and made the last one count, taking a centering pass from Emily and sending her shot into the back of the net to put the Stampede up 2-1.

Bedford managed another goal to tie the game at 2-2. Shortly after that, Brittany switched with Nicole in net, her first time in goal for the Stampede.

The Stampede matched right down the field. There was a back pass from Emily to Nicole at the blue line and Nicole drilled a shot that the Bedford keeper didn't expect and likely didn't even see until it was whizzing over her head. This put the Stampede up 3-2.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (7) vs. Litchfeld (1)

Overall, a spectacular game for the Stampede. All the girls played very well today and heavily outplayed Litchfield who were a little short on subs.

Bari started in net and saw little action early on as the Stampede peppered the Litchfield keeper with shots. Hillary, Melissa, Kate and Michelle were outstanding on defense today. They cut off a number of chances for Litchfield, took their time, made good passes when they could and cleared the ball down the field when there were no open players.

Amy T started things off, taking an excellent feed from Michelle and putting it past the Litchfield keeper. The Stampede kept it up with some excellent passing that resulted in great shooting chances. Emily, Stephanie, Amy T all had good shooting chances. Even Kari got into the action and had a solid shot that went just a little high.

Stephanie notched the second goal off a good leading pass from Kari that left Stephanie alone with the keeper. She put her shot in the back of the net and the Stampede were up 2-0.

Brittany replaced Bari in net and quickly saw some action. Litchfield managed their one goal on a clearing pass by that caught the Stampede defense a little too far forward. Neither Brittany nor the defense could get to the ball and Litchfield scored. Brittany did make a couple solid saves during her time in net.

Up 2-1, the Stampede pressed on. Nicole sent a rocket of a shot that the Litchfield keeper caught, but it almost spun her around.

Amy T got her second goal on an excellent piece of second effort work. She snuck past the last defender and sent in a shot that the keeper block. The ball came back to her and she earily chipped it over the keeper to put the Stampede up 3-1.

Near the end of the half, the Stampede were sending in shot after shot. It must have been about 5 shots in a row (all very close, bouncing off the back wall) when Nicole trapped a rebound outside the penalty box and sent a line drive shot past everyone and into the net.

In the second half, Nicole replaced Brittany in net.

The Litchfield keeper handled the ball just outside the box giving the Stampede a free kick. Michelle took the kick which went through the wall and past the keeper to put the Stampede up 5-1.

No more than 30 seconds later, just after the next restart, Michelle drilled another one into the net to put the Stampede up 6-1.

An unfortunate pass-back handball by the Stampede resulted in a very close free kick, but Nicole and the defense stopped the ball and cleared it out.

Michelle took over from Nicole in net.

On the next run down the field, Brittany got her first goal of the game after being setup by Bari.

Bari returned to net for the final few minutes of the game. The Stampede held strong for the remainder of the game and finished with a 7-1 victory.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (5) vs. MISL (2)

Today the Stampede took in the U-10 MISL team. While they were a year younger than the Stampede, they are a strong club and gave the Stampede a good game.

During the first half, the Stampede continued their fantastic passing, playmaking and defense. Bari started in net and was kept very busy, but the Stampede defense of Hillary, Melissa and Michelle held very strong. They stopped a number of shots and stole the ball from MISL on more than a few occasions.

The Stampede got on the board first as Michelle slipped a nice pass out of the back up to Ashley who immediately sent the ball up to Alexandra who was heading for the net. In alone against the MISL keeper, Alexandra stayed very patient and placed her shot very nicely under the keeper to put the Stampede up 1-0.

After this goal MISL had a couple chances, but Bari was strong in net and made some good saves.

The Stampede pushed down the field and Amy T got off a nice shot that didn't quite make it in. Shortly after that, Emily sent Amy a nice wall pass and Amy buried it to put the Stampede up 2-0.

Ashley picked up the third goal off a great setup from Stephanie who sent a pass off the back wall that Ashley quickly knocked into the net.

At this point Michelle replaced Bari in net and saw plenty of action for the remainder of the half. She had a couple of good saves and played very well.

One of the more interesting goals was the 4th Stampede goal. Stephanie threaded a nice pass up the middle through a couple MISL defenders to Nicole who swung and appeared to miss the ball. Miss or not, this was enough to put the MISL keeper off and the ball rolled into the net.

The scoring continued as MISL picked up 2 goals of their own making the halftime score 4-2.

In the second half, Nicole started in net and fielded a number shots from MISL, but nothing got past her.

The final goal of the game came when Amy centered the ball to Michelle who sent in a nice shot to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Stampede.

Passing and playmaking in the first half of the game was nothing short of fantastic from the girls today. Emily, Amy, Stephanie, Ashley, Alexandra and Aimee were excellent up front. Nicole and Kari did very well in midfield.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (3) vs. TriTown (3)

A severely shorthanded Stampede team faced a fully packed TriTown team this afternoon. In the first half the Stampede had 2 of the NGSA U-10 players as well as Courtney from the U-11 A team helping out. A couple late Stampede arrivals gave them enough for 2 subs so the U-10 players and Courtney bowed out for the second half. We thank them for their time - they played very well for the Stampede.

The girls played well today, but were definitely tired in the second half. Stephanie, Alexandra and Ashley each had a few good chances early on, but just couldn't find the back of the net.

Aimee started out in net and did a fine job stopping a few tough shots.

Hillary, Kari and Kate did a superb job on defense today, protecting the goal and stopping TriTown from getting off too many shots. The forwards often came back to help on defense as well.

TriTown managed the first goal, but the Stampede came right back with one from Courtney to tie the game at 1-1.

Michelle replaced Aimee in net for the remainder of the half.

Alexandra sent a kick from the corner into the top of the net to put the Stampede up 2-1.

Shortly after that, Hillary sent a pass up from defense to Stephanie who went in alone against the Tritown keeper and calmly stuffed the ball into the net to put the Stampede up 3-1.

Michelle continued in net in the second half and was tested a few times. She did a fine job stopping a breakaway shot from a TriTown player.

The Stampede continued having a number of chances to score, but just couldn't get the ball into the net.

Aimee replaced Michelle in net for the second part of the second half. Through no fault of Aimee's (the Stampede were just getting tired), TriTown came back with 2 goal in the final 2 minutes of the game, to make the final score 3-3. Aimee had a couple solid saves on hard shots from TriTown and did very well in net.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Litchfield (2)

The Stampede's first loss of the indoor season came at a tough time, game 1 of the tournament. It was nice to see Meghan in her first game of this indoor session - welcome back Meghan!

A note from the Coach (who summed it all up quite well):

We didn't really make any big mistakes, the girls continued to play as a team...they went down playing good soccer, trying the right things. We created some opportunities...we just didn't put it together to take the game. And Litchfield got the breaks (fair breaks too,) that they needed. We did not really give up a "good" goal on a good play. The first was a goofy dead ball toe kick that found the opposite corner...very hard to stop, and penalty shots are supposed to go in! Special Kudos to Bari for a great job in the pressure spot.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (5) vs. Merrimack (4)

A shorthanded Stampede faced Merrimack today in what turned out to be a rather interesting back and forth game, with the lead changing hands on a couple occasions.

Nicole spent most of the game in net, with Michelle taking over with about 10 minutes left in the game. Coming off a wrist injury from last week and having a bit of a cold kept Nicole a little off balance, but she played well in net. Michelle did a fine job during her time in net as well.

The Stampede started out strong. The first major run up the field had Emily making a beautiful leading pass to Alexandra who sent her shot just wide of the keeper. Only a few moments later, those 2 girls duplicated their play, but this time Alexandra opted for a long shot - and into the back of the net it went.

Hillary, Michelle and Kate were strong on defense, but Merrimack managed to get one past them an Nicole to tie the score at 1-1. Following that, a little defensive mistake by the Stampede led to the second Merrimack goal.

Michelle then sent up a nice leading pass to Stephanie who used her speed to get in alone against the keeper and snuck a soft shot low past the keeper to tie the score at 2-2.

Michelle then put the Stampede up 3-2 with a solid free kick from just outside the Merrimack box.

Meghan had an outstanding day today, showing great patience whenever she had the ball and sending nice crosses in from the left side for Stephanie, Alexandra and Aimee.

Early in the second half Merrimack was awarded a penalty kick for a handball in the Stampede box. They converted and the score was again tied at 3-3.

Merrimack went up by 1 after a wild series of shots. Nicole blocked the first shot, the rebound shot went just high and the immediate third shot was a rocket that blasted past her.
