NGSA Stampede (1) vs. Bedford (2)
The Stampede faced a solid Bedford team today, a team that kept
them in their own end of the field for much of the game.
Bari played the first half in net and saw plenty of action. She
made some very nice saves.
Bedford set their tone for the game very early with a free kick
from just outside the 18-yard box that rocketed off the crossbar.
Shortly after that Bedford sent in a solid high shot that sailed
over Bari's head.
Even with Bedford playing tough, the Stampede did have a few good
runs down the field with Ashley, Michelle and Amy T each having
chances at net.
Bedford picked up another goal after some nice passing in the
box.
In the second half, Tasha relieved Bari in net and saw plenty
of action herself. She also came up with some solid saves and
played very well.
Throughout the game Melissa was outstanding on defense. This was
one of her best games. Hillary also played exceptionally well
on defense.
In one of the best chances of the day for the Stampede, Michelle
made a run up the right side, cut in and sent a low rolling ball
across the 6-yard box. Stephanie came tearing up the left side
but the ball was a little ahead of her sliding kick and she only
managed to get a piece of the ball and it went wide to the left.
Still, a spectacular play between the two girls.
Later in the second half Alexandra brought the ball up the left
side, cut in and sent a shot past the Bedford keeper to the far
post. It was very nicely played.
For much of the remainder of the game Bedford kept pounding down
the Stampede end of the field and it ended in a tough loss for
the Stampede.
