NGSA - U-14 Stampede
Girls Competitive Soccer

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. Merrimack (0)

A very nice game for the Stampede and one they controlled for most of the game. Michelle spent the first half in net while Nicole spent the second half in net.

Melissa, Kari and Kate were rock solid on defense. Melissa ran the defense like clockwork as usual, even taking time out to...uh...inform, yes inform the referee once about an uncalled offsides.

A particularly memorable play from Kate was one when a ball was cleared by Merrimack into the middle of the field to empty space and pretty much everyone just watched it. A Merrimack player started towards it and Kate came blazing up from defense to send the ball up to the forwards before the Merrimack player could get to it.

The game was almost all Stampede in the first half, but, aside from Ashley's one crack towards net, the girls just weren't getting off any shots. Passing was superb with Ashley, Courtney, Amy, Alexandra and Lindsey leading the way, along with Olivia stepping up bigtime in midfield. They looked for and found each other on numerous occasions.

The wildest play of the half was a rare shot by Merrimack that actually bounced 3 times on top of the crossbar before falling off the back. Although it took only a moment, it felt as if it took 5 minutes.

In the second half both teams were quite tired (the Stampede had 1 sub, Merrimack, none) and it showed. Merrimack had a couple more shots, but Nicole was there to stop them. The Stampede still controlled most of the half, but Merrimack's defense was always there to thwart them.

In the end we had a 0-0 tie, but the girls looked excellent for their first game of the season.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. TriTown (0)

The Stampede were all over TriTown today, but just couldn't get the ball into the net. The girls passed very well and kept the ball in TriTown's end of the field for much of the game.

Lindsey, Courtney and Ashley each had solid shots that either just missed or were stopped by the keeper.

Alexandra turned in a good game at forward including one very nice play where she beat one TriTown player in the box to get the ball, kept it away from a second player then slid a nice pass back for a Stampede player coming up to take a good shot. That was a fine example of the heads up passing in the Stampede's game today.

Melissa A was fast and furious in center defense while Kate and Kari (and Michelle at the end of the game), kept things in good shape on the outside of the defensive line.

Melissa P had a solid, yet quiet game in net. She came up with a couple good saves, but the bugs gave her more problems than the TriTown forwards.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (6) vs. Hampstead (0)

An excellent outing for the Stampede, good passing, nice teamwork and an all around solid game.

The Stampede started out a little flat, getting caught on their heels and allowing Hampstead to push down and get off a couple shots on Melissa P.

As the Stampede pulled themselves together, they moved up the field, passing nicely and Michelle L and Courtney each got off a couple shots.

The first goal came off a shot by Michelle L and was deflected into the Hampstead net by a Hampstead player. The next Stampede goal was a brilliant shot from outside the 18 by Courtney who drill the ball high and into the net.

In the second half, Lindsey picked up a goal, followed by another from Courtney.

Up 4-0, the Stampede were looking strong. Alexandra was doing some nice work up front and Katie D was having an excellent game in midfield. Olivia was, again, top notch in midfield along with Aimee.

Amy picked up the next goal on a long outside shot from the left side that went all the way to the far post and into the net. She also notched the final goal on another outside shot that, like the first Stampede goal, was redirected by a Hampstead player into the net.

Kate had another strong game on defense, playing solidly throughout the game.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (4) vs. TriTown (1)

A solid game from the Stampede. Details are sketchy since the team reporter was missing in action, but the word was that Michelle picked up 2 goals, Lindsey 1 and Nicole 1. By all accounts the Stampede were on top of their game and played well.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (2) vs. TriTown (1)

A good game for the girls in a light drizzle. The field conditions didn't play into the game too much, but there was definitely a slippery spot on the field where 3 girls went down within just a couple minutes.

With Melissa P out today, Nicole and Michelle split the game in net. Both performed very well.

The Stampede controlled the field well for most of the first half. They went up 2-0 with 2 quick goals. Michelle picked up the first one, unassisted, when she took the ball herself, kept it down to the end line, dribbled across and somehow managed to get her shot past the keeper at a very odd angle.

Courtney set up the second goal, receiving a pass in midfield and dishing a perfect through ball past 2 TriTown defenders to break Michelle free. Michelle finished nicely on the shot.

Later in the half, TriTown picked up a goal on an absolutely brillian shot from the left side that Nicole had no chance of getting to.

The second half was much more TriTown. They controlled the field well and got off a number of shots. The Stampede still had their chances, with Alex breaking free a couple times. There was some good passing from the Stampede, but they were beginning to look a little tired. Still, the defense held well, the midfielders dropped back nicely to assist on defense and Michelle stopped a few shots while in net.

Aimee, Kate and Olivia were first rate again, with Melissa, Lindsey and Alex also having a very good game.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (2) vs. Manchester (0)

Melissa P picked up another shutout in net as the Stampede defeated Manchester United 2-0.

The first half ended in a 0-0 draw with Manchester getting the better chances to score. At least 1 Manchester shot went off the post and a couple more were just wide. Melissa held strong in net and the Stampede defense was solid as usual.

In the second half, the Stampede put on more pressure. Aimee sent in a long pass from just inside the center circle, that was possible defelcted by a Manchester player, and as it fell to Ashley in front of the net, she touched it past the keeper to put the Stampede up 1-0.

Late in the second half, Michelle made one of her typical runs down the left, holding the ball down across the end line and was able to cut back out slightly and sent a shot past the keeper to the far post putting the Stampede up 2-0.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (5) vs. Manchester (1)

Another excellent game for the Stampede. Melissa P came up big in net and had an excellent game. The Stampede owned the first half, maintaining posession, passing very well, covering for each other, etc.

The first goal was picked up by Lindsay and a couple deflected balls in the box. Towards the left-center of the box she popped an outside of the foot shot to the far post, easily beating the Manchester keeper.

Michelle then had 2 quic ones, both her classic keeping the ball down the left side, across the end line and nailing in a tough angle shot.

Up 3-0 at the half, the Stampede kept going. Michelle picked up another when she received the ball in the box and toe-poked a hard shot past the keeper.

Manchester picked up one on a loose ball that Melissa P still got a couple fingers one.

The Stampede came back with another when Courtney fed Ashley a long ball. Ashley caught up to it and shot mid-stride and it was 5-1 Stampede.

Manchester was much tougher in the second half, breaking up numerous chances for the Stampede, but the girls held strong and came away with the win.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. TriTown (2)

The Stampede fell to an excellent TriTown team 0-2 in the Open Cup semi finals. This was not the TriTown team the girls had faced twice before, they were bigger, faster and more skilled.

The Stampede held strong, but went down by 2 goals in the first half. Melissa P was superb in net, making countless saves including a beauty that she tipped high, it bounced off the crossbar and she turned to grab it before a TriTown striker could finish.

The remainder of the girls also played very well. Katie D had one of her best games of the year. Kate R also had an excellent game.

Time to rest for the Summer and be ready for the Fall 2003 season.
