NGSA - U-14 Stampede
Girls Competitive Soccer

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (5) vs. Seacoast (1)

The Stampede dominated a shorthanded (but otherwise strong) Seacoast team. The Stampede were shorthanded so additional players were called for and Meghan, Olivia, Aimee and Kayleigh from the Stampede I team agreed to play to help out.

The girls played the attack-minded soccer asked for by the coach and strung together some nice passing combinations as well.

The game started off well with Tory sending a long, high pass up the middle onto which Rebecca ran, outraced the defense and put in the first Stampede goal in an easy 1-on-1 with the Seacoast keeper.

Shortly after that, Kayleigh sent the ball outside to Emily who sent a quick shot off the keeper and post and into the net to put the Stampede up 2-0.

The Amanda/Rebecca combination came through again with Amanda feeding a good pass to Rebecca who put her shot in for her second of the game.

In the second half, Kayleigh picked up an unassisted goal, taking the ball from midfield, up through and past a couple Seacoast defenders and chipped the charging keeper to make it 4-0.

At that point, Amy was moved from her central defender spot to the front and in no time at all picked up an unassisted goal herself, beating a Seacoast defender and sending in a long high shot to the far post.

With virtually no time left on the clock, Seacoast were awarded a PK after a Stampede foul in the box. Seacoast converted and picked up their only goal of the game.

In the end the girls played well, the additionally players helped out quite a bit (especially with Kate R and Bridget still a little under the weather). Emily and Kirsten had outstanding games at outside midfield, lots of good shots were taken, many, many scoring chances wer made through smart play and good passing. All the way around, a nice beginning to the season.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (2) vs. Timberlane (3)

A less than stellar game for the understaffed Stampede. With only 2 subs (one still recovering from illness) and many, many tired players, this was a tough one for the girls. A good sign that more subs are a necessity for the team.

The Stampede looked a little lackluster in the early going and Timberlane picked up their first goal 13 minutes into the game. Timberlane continued to pound at the Stampede throughout the first half. Susan had a number of excellent saves and kept what could have been an out of control game to 0-1 at the half.

Three minutes into the second half Timberlane picked up their second goal, but two minutes later the Stampede began to work forward and Emily fed the ball to Rebecca who sent a hopping shot past the Timberlane keeper. The Stampede were in the game now.

With that goal the Stampede kept pushing forward and two minutes later, after a shot was rebounded well outside the 18 yard box, Tory came up from her center defender position and sent a long 25 yard shot high and over the Timberlane keeper to tie the game at 2 each.

The Stampede defense was getting tired, subs were minimal (most of the time the girls who came out needed to get right back in to replace another player) and Timberlane picked up their third and final goal after Susan deflected a very hard shot from the end line and a Timberlane player in front of the box easily put it in.

There were a couple more close chances from the Stampede, but it ended with a one goal difference.

Game Summary for

NGSA Stampede (0) vs. (1)

While an unfortunate loss, the Stampede should come away pleased with their play. Excellent work all around. Tory, who was suppose to spend only the first half in net but ended up in net the entire game after Susan was injured in the first half, was superb between the pipes.

The offsides trap was again superb thanks to Katie C, Katie D, Elizabeth and Nicole. In midfield, Emily, Kirsten, Alex and Bridget (with support from Anna and Hillary) all played very well. Up front, Rebecca, Amanda and Hillary produced a number of good scoring chances (many near misses) with nice passing and good hustle.

The lone goal of the game came off a high cross from the corner. The ball just managed to make it over Tory's fingertips and land at the feet of an unmarked Upper Valley player who's shot found the back of the net.

Due to numerous injuries and player absences, the Stampede had Nicole and Anna as guest players. Both performed very well and we're grateful they were able to help out.
