Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (4) vs. Merrimack (5)

Merrimack is always a tough opponent for the Cobras, indoor and outdoor and today was no exception. This was an outstanding game...and a close one as well.

The first half was very tight with each team picking up 1 goal each. The Cobras scored first when Joe took a free kick from close range that deflected off the keeper and Timmer finished it. Merrimack came back only a few minutes later with one of their own to tie it at 1-1.

While Merrimack put on most of the pressure to start, the half ended even with shots at 15-13 (favoring Merrimack).

Things picked up in the second half when, 5 minutes into the half, Merrimack picked up their second goal.

The Cobras came back when Timmer fed Matt in the middle and Matt did a sliding shot (getting under a Merrimack defender) and stuffed the ball under the keeper.

An inadvertant own goal (via a misdirected header) put Merrimack back on top 2-3. Joe tied it again. Merrimack picked up 2 in a row to go up 3-5.

Late in the game Timmer brought the ball up on his own and sent a good shot in for the final goal of the game which ended it 4-5.

Josh ended the game having made 24 saves on 41 shots.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (7) vs. Litchfield (1)

We never know which Litchfield team we'll be playing...they're a bit Jeckyl and Hyde. While they looked strong today the Cobras just rolled over them. Litchfield was short on players so they picked up 2 very skilled girls who had played in an earlier game.

One of the best things about this game was that the Cobras picked up 7 goals from 7 different players.

Joe started things off with a brilliant display of skill. With a defender right on him, he flicked the ball over him and the defender, got over the keeper and sent the ball into the net. The actual play was much nicer than this explanation...you had to be there.

The Cobras picked up a PK chance when Matt was taken down in the box. Nate's PK was stopped by the Litchfield keeper.

The Cobras second goal was created by a perfect wall pass from Nate that Matt one touched past the Litchfield keeper.

Shortly after that, Ian fed Andrew who took a solid shot that was block back to him. His second chance (colliding with a Litchfield defender on the shot) didn't miss and the Cobras were up 3-0.

Josh was playing excellent in net and the Cobras defense (Charlie in particular, but Ian and Jonathan as well) was holding very strong.

In the second half, Charlie sent in a shot that bounced off the back wall. Bobby was their to claim it and drilled it into the net to put the Cobras up 4-0.

Joe set up Erik for the next goal, another good display of skill and soft touch. Erik's shot off Joe's pass was blocked and bounced high. Erik jumped up and touched it just over the keepers head and into the net. Cobras up 5-0.

Litchfield finally managed to get one in when Josh dove to block a shot and the shooter got the ball back and quickly put it in.

Charlie was starting to look a little frustrated when his shots weren't making it in. With a look of determination, he brought the ball up from the back to just about the center line and drilled a rocket over the keeper and into the back of the net. It was an impressive shot...and Charlie started smiling again.

Jonathan finished the scoring for the night, beating the keeper with a low, soft shot to make the final score 7-1.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (3) vs. Merrimack (5)

The Cobras played another spirited match with the strong Merrimack squad albeit being short-handed (both Erik and Charlie were unavailable).

The first goal by the Cobras was as a result of fine team passing, beginning with a long feed from Matt (from right to left) and a deft cross to the center by Tim to Joe, who hammered it home for an early lead.

After this Joe was set up with several more quality scoring chances but as his dad says "take him off after he gets his one goal!". Erik was missed in this department.

Merrimack put relentless pressure throughout the game on Josh, who stood tall to the occasion. Charlie was missed in this department.

Timmer and Ian both scored on fine individual efforts (deking and faking the defense before nonplussing the keeper) off of equal good quality feeds.

Excellent two-way effort by the entire team made for an very entertaining match in spite of the NYC-cop type of officiating ("it ain't a crime if I didn't see it while I wasn't looking").

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (8) vs. Litchfield (0)

This game featured a courageous effort from keeper Josh, who returned from Maine straight to the game not two days after having all 4 wisdom teeth removed for his birthday.

The first half featured 4 unanswered goals by the Cobras as they did a fine job of controlling play with passing and ball possession. This included rocket shot by Nate in which the Litchfield keeper appeared frozen in time. Both Joe and Tim beat their men on the right and left wings, respectively, to score during the half. Finally, Brett, appearing on a try-out basis smartly hammered home a well-placed one-time pass from Timmer for his goal.

The second half began with Ryan taking over in goal for Litchfield. This served as a spark as Ryan's Cobras teammates renewed their vigor for offense. This produced many shots on Ryan, who performed very effectively given the barrage. As a result of this new-found emphasis on scoring, Josh was left with several odd-man rushes which he handled flawlessly with the sparse and conscientious backliners supporting him. At one point during this effort, Charlie had an NHL style tip-in from an Ian shot.

At one point in the 2nd half Timmer was unceremoneously dropped on defense, fortunately he was very vocal whilst crashing down, as our "home" ref - Fil, recognized his voice and called the foul (Note - after observing last weeks "no-calls", Fil did an excellent job on both sides of the ball this week - unfortunately last week's ref wasn't around to learn from this performance). The ensuing free kick by JT was a nearly full-court bomb that managed to find its way to the back of the net.

Josh and the defense did well to earn the shutout (nearly all players played defense at one point, including JOE!).

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras () vs. WCC ()

This game involved a match-up with WCC or WLC, which the Cobras had not yet played this indoor season. This opponent featured what appeared to be older high school age players (one who wore a BG "Super Fan" shirt as well).

Timmer started off the scoring with a blistering shot down the left side which was followed by an impressive bad-angle shot from the right side by WCC/WLC's best player. This was followed by the first of Colin's goals, which occurred during a scrum in the goal-crease. The half ended with a VERY physical, intense tie score.

The second half ensued with similar results as in the 1st period, with Colin again scoring but this was again responded to by WCC/WLC to knot the score at 3.

At this point the Cobras took over as Nate supplied a nice feed from left defense onto Timmer who again beat the keeper with a low dart inside the post. This was followed by a nice deflection/pass from Charlie (not playing defense for a change) to Joe (like a see-food diet, Joe gets his one goal a game) to set the Cobras to 5-3 with 10 minutes remaining.

What followed was an even more intense, physical effort by WCC/WLC to tie the game. After closing the gap to 5-4 with under two minutes a curious sequence of events took place.

With the Cobras defending their one goal lead, the BG "Super-Fan" checked Timmer into the end-boards and drew a 2-minute penalty. Upon passing the Cobras coach (who was lustily cheering on the beleagured defense), this player chose to perform a derisive imitation. This lead to another two-minute infraction. At that point this "out of control" player raised an inappropriate digit to the ref (whilst using some "off-the-charts" language) and was ejected. With the clock running during this exchange, one of the WCC/WLC players had the presence of mind to resume play, but was thwarted.

All in all one of the best efforts by the Cobras in some time in spite of the depth that was missing from the line-up (with Erik still in FLA and JT's whereabouts unknown); note that Ryan Faria provided much needed support but had played the previous game and appeared tired).

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (9) vs. Orange Crush (5)

An excellent game for the Cobras against long time indoor rival Orange Crush. Timmer had a particularly strong game picking up 4 goals.

Nate started things off with an excellent long range chip, but the Orange Crush keeper just got a finger on it to keep it out of the net.

Orange Crush picked up the first 2 goals before Ian came up from defense and weaved through a few players, got off a solid shot and put it in the net.

Timmer tied it at 2-2 after getting his own rebound on a blocked shot and sending it into the net. He picked up the next goal on a similar play, receiving a pass from Colin, shooting, getting the rebound and slamming it home.

Nate picked up the next goal, heading in a perfectly placed free kick by Erik.

An outstanding effort from Jonathan on defense, touching the ball away from an Orange Crush forward at the last second, kept the score at 4-2 in favor of the Cobras at halftime.

In the second half, Joe picked up his first of the game before Orange Crush countered with another one.

Timmer picked up 2 more goals, one with an assist to Joe to put the Cobras up 7-3.

Josh notched his first assist as keeper when he sent a long throw to Joe who finished nicely to put the Cobras up 8-3.

The final Cobras goal came when Ian sent a pass in to Nate who one touched it in. Orange Crush picked up 2 more but it wasn't enough and the Cobras prevailed 9-5.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (7) vs. Classics (7)

The smaller Classics players lulled the Cobras for the first 10 or 15 minutes and took an early 0-2 lead.

The Cobras countered when Erik stole the ball, took it down the right side and sent a nice back wall pass to Brian who nicely finished.

Shortly after that, Ian fed Timmer who came screaming in against, and collided with, the keeper. Timmer was able to push the ball past the keeper just before the collision to tie the score at 2 each at the half.

In the second half, the Classics picked up another 2 goals before Brian took a shot which was deflected and Timmer was there to finish.

The Cobras tied the game again when Erik received the ball on the right side (assist was unknown) and drilled a shot past the keeper to the far post.

The Classics came back with another and then Ian tied it with a nice display of dribbling skill as he weaved through 3 defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net.

The Cobras took their first lead of the night when the Classics keeper made the mistake of trying to dribble the ball around Timmer who immediately stole the ball and sent it into the net for his easiest goal of the night.

The Classics regained the lead as they picked up 2 more goals before Timmer took a long pass from Brian and did some sort of flying acrobatics to touch the ball just over the keeper.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (10) vs. P.A.C. (15)

The Cobras faced PAC, an exceptional team, on the small field for a wild night. The shots were numerous and the saves were often impressive. Matt C and Ryan F shared netminding duties in the first half and Jonathan (lured out of retirement in Josh's absence) handled the second half.

The game was PAC's from the outset and they outplayed the Cobras much of the first half. But, in the second half, the Cobras came out ready to play hand and that they did.

Bobby had a great game, putting up 4 goals. Erik, Timmer, Ian, Colin, Ryan F and Kyle each put up goals of their own. One of the more entertaining (and scary) goals was Jonathan's in the second half. Yes, he was in net during the second half, but ventured downfield on a couple occasions and one one such trek drilled a shot past the PAC keeper.

The final was 10-15 in favor of PAC, but the Cobras definitely looked much better in the second half and played well.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (2) vs. Hudson (2)

Interesting game. There were a total of 25 shots by Hudson and 44 by the Cobras...for a grand total of 4 goals combined. These guys just couldn't buy a goal today. The keepers on both ends (Jonathan and Ryan for the Cobras) were excellent, making numerous saves of good shots, and the players were barely wide and high on many occasions.

Jonathan spent the first half in net facing 16 shots and making 12 saves. About 20 minutes into the game, Andrew started out the scoring for the Cobras when he took a feed from Timmer, fakes out the keeper and put in an easy angle shot.

Hudson picked up their only goal of the half about 5 minutes later.

In the second half, Ryan faced 9 shots and made 4 saves. The Cobras went on top again when Colin sent a pass up to Timmer who got around the keeper and sent the ball in.

The Cobras held as well as they could, but Hudson picked up a late goal to make the final score 2-2.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (7) vs. Bedford (2)

This was a different Bedford team, and one short a couple players. The Cobras played a good strong game.

Bedford picked up the first goal on an interesting angle shot, but the Cobras countered quickly when Timmer set up Erik for a similar angle shot.

Timmer picked up the second and third Cobras goals, the first of which was nicely setup by Andrew and the second which Timmer did alone with enormous second effort.

Tim setup the next goal, feeding Nate in the center. Nate recevied the ball, turned quickly, shot and found the back of the net.

In the second half, Tim almost had another one, but it deflected off the inside of the post, came out and was not declared a goal.

Erik picked up the next Cobras goal when he broke in alone and beat the keeper.

Up 5-1, the Cobras kept at it and kept up the nice passing and setups. The next goal came when Nate passed up to Tim who sent it over to Kyle who took a shot from the side and scored.

Bedford's next best chance was foiled by Josh with a brilliant 1 handed diving save. Definitely highlight material.

Bedford capitalized on their next chance when one of their forwards was left wide open and a winger found him in front of the net.

The final goal of the game came from Nate (assist unknown) which set the score at 7-2.

In the first tournament game the Cobras faced Amherst, a very good team. The Cobras played a great game.

Up 4-2 midway through the game, things looked good for the Cobras. However, it was not to be. Amherst's skill was shown as they piled up 4 straight goals to take the game 4-6.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (3) vs. Wilton (2)

A tough game against a very rough team. Erik left the game early in the first half with a bruised knee after being badly hacked by a Wilton player.

This didn't bother the Cobras who took an early 2-0 lead with Timmer picking up both goals. The first was unassisted (in fact he rather assisted himself with a wall pass to himself, a shot, getting the rebound and putting it in the net. The second goal was nicely setup by Ian.

Wilton countered with 1 goal before the end of the half.

The Cobras next goal was exactly what coaches like to see, selfless one touch passing resulting in a perfect shooting chance and a goal. Ian took the ball up, fed Colin who quickly centered the ball to Timmer who drilled a shot into the net. This description does the play no justice, it was a thing of beauty.

Up 3-1 the Cobras had only to keep Wilton away from their net. But as the Cobras grew tired, the shots piled up. Josh had yet another great game in net, making numerous quality saves. Jonathan and Ian were very solid on defense, blocking a number of shots themselves.

Wilton did manage a last second goal with under a minute to go on a breakaway, but the Cobras toughed it out for a 3-2 win.

Game Summary For

Nashua Cobras (5) vs. Dracut (4)

A close, even game throughout. Dracut took an early 0-1 lead before Bobby tied the game with a nice free kick past the keeper. Timmer added a second Cobras goal when he sent his own rebound into the net.

Dracut came back to tie the game with a soft shot that managed to get past Josh. He followed this with a couple stunning saves, including stopping a breakaway.

Late in the half the Cobras were just drilling Dracut. At one point, Timmer had a shot blocked, Ian blasted in a shot on the rebound which was also saved and Timmer, still in the box, back-heeled the ball past the keeper.

Dracut picked up another goal, making it 3-3 at the half.

In the second half, the Cobras went on top again when Bobby brought the ball up the right side with Timmer hustling up through the middle. Bobby sent a back wall pass to Timmer, but the ball bounced up about waist high. Timmer jumped and touched the ball past the keeper in the air.

After Dracut tied the game, yet again, Josh R sent a sliding shot past the Dracut keeper to give the Cobras the game.
