Game Summary For

Nashua Red Cobras (4) vs. Bedford (2)

The Red Cobras first game of the year was against Bedford, champions of the division last year. The Red Cobras had the distinction of being the only team to defeat Bedford (twice) in the fall and they hoped to continue that dominance today.

At the start of the game, Bedford was well organized and began running right past the Red Cobras. Very early on a Bedford striker got behind the Cobras defense for a breakaway down the center of the box. Jonathan initially held his line, but then charged the Bedford player and blocked his shot.

Although most of the play was in the Red Cobras end of the field in the first half, they struck first. Desmond brought the ball up the left side of the field, pushed it past the Bedford defenders, beating 2 of them cleanly, then cut to the middle and put a soft shot into the net at the far post. Red Cobras up 1-0.

Play continued to be mainly in the Red Cobras end of the field, but the Red Cobras managed a couple good attempts. On one Nick A sent a long leading pass up the left side to Desmond who again beat the Bedford defenders, but his shot was wide to the left.

The next significant attack by Bedford saw another breakaway that Jonathan stopped, but could not hang onto. The Bedford striker immediately got the ball again and drilled a shot that went off Jonathan's chest. Excellent goalkeeping by Jonathan.

Desmond, again showing is blazing speed, took another long leading pass, beat a couple Bedford defenders and got off a shot that was saved by the Bedford keeper.

Towards the middle of the first half, one of the best attempts by Bedford was after Erik stopped a long pass and began to bring the ball up, but lost it to a Bedford player. Everyone converged in the 18-yard box and Bedford took shot after shot, stopped by Jonathan and the Red Cobras defenders. They had a very hard time clearing the ball, but finally managed to get it done.

Shortly after that flurry by Bedford, they came back again. After stopping a couple shots, Jonathan was down on the ground when a Bedford player ripped a shot past him, but Adam was there to save the day and get the ball cleared.

Bedford managed to get on the board on a corner kick from the right side. The ball was perfectly placed into the center of the box and, after a couple blocked shots, Bedford managed to get the ball into the net to tie the score at 1-1.

Throughout the game, Eric played exceptionally well from his midfield position. He intercepted passes, won headers and was always in the middle of play.

In the second half, the Red Cobras come out very strong and dominated the field of play. Early in the second half, Desmond again brought the ball up the left side from midfield, cut to the middle but let the ball get too far away from him. Nick A came running up the center and just as he hit the ball, collided with Desmond, but the shot was good and put the Red Cobras up 2-1. An amazing play and fortunately neither Desmond nor Nick A was hurt in the collision.

Shortly after this goal, Desmond did almost the same thing again. He brought the ball up the left side, had one Bedford defender dogging him and just before the end line took a shot. The Bedford keeper got a hand on the ball to stop it and Nick A was there to punch it into the back of the net to put the Red Cobras up 3-1.

Right after the restart from the last goal, Bedford, who has been inexplicably sending their restarts forward to the Red Cobras, did just that. The Red Cobras stole the ball and Alec and Nick A passed the ball back and forth down the field until Nick A took a great shot that was stopped by the Bedford keeper.

Header-mania took over. After a spurt of half dozen headers between the Bedford and Red Cobras players, Joseph headed the ball to Desmond who took it up the left side but couldn't get much on his shot and it went wide to the right.

The Red Cobras continued to show some very aggressive play, good passing and teamwork throughout the second half. Their play was strong enough that Jonathan wasn't very busy in net.

Late in the half, Joseph headed a Bedford pass up the side to Desmond who took the ball down into the box, faked out the Bedford keeper and sent a soft shot to the far post to put the Red Cobras up 4-1.

With less than 1 minute left in the game, a Bedford player took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that Jonathan attempted to tip over the net, but it was too high for him. This was the last score of the game; 4-2.

Game Summary For

Nashua Red Cobras (4) vs. Hopkinton (1)

The Red Cobras traveled to Hopkinton, NH to play a good Hopkinton team on a blustery day. The wind made more than a few plays rather interesting. Overall the Red Cobras offense blew over the Hopkinton defense, but the Red Cobras defense had a few tough moments.

Randy Sanders, player of the game today, started off by intercepting the opening start by Hopkinton and moving the ball down the field. Although he didn't have an assist or goal today, it was his effort, as well as that of Eric and Joseph, in the midfield that drove the Red Cobras today.

After getting the ball up the field, Desmond was stuck in the middle with a couple Hopkinton players on him so he passed the ball left to Eric who sent in a nice high curving shot that was stopped by the tall Hopkinton keeper.

Despite a couple tough moments, the Red Cobras midfield (Joseph, Eric and Randy) did a fine job of pushing the ball forward and sending a number of good leading passes to Desmond, Nick A and Mike L to spark some good shots.

Early on in the game, Desmond received one of many good leading passes and sent in a shot that was stopped by the Hopkinton keeper.

Shortly after that attempt, Nick A took the ball up, saw Desmond waiting and fed him a good leading pass. Desmond beat the Hopkinton defense and put the ball past the keeper at the far post to put the Red Cobras up 1-0.

Alec made a couple excellent saves in net on good chances by Hopkinton.

Towards the end of the first half, the Red Cobras defense started to break down a little and they had trouble clearing the ball out of their area. At one point, Hopkinton was parked in the Red Cobras 18-yard box and a Hopkinton player managed to get through and with a wide open shot, missed the net.

On the clearance from that, Nick A did a great job coming up the middle and fought hard to get past a few Hopkinton players and sent the ball up to Mike L. Unfortunately, either Mike L or Desmond was offside. Great play though.

When the ball came back, the Red Cobras defense was flat and a Hopkinton player weaved through them and sent in a shot. Alec did a great job stopping the ball, but no Red Cobras were there to clear the ball. A Hopkinton player stepped in and tapped the ball into the net to tie the game.

Just before the end of the half, Mike L took the ball with one defender on him and ended up in a 3-way collision with himself, the defender and the Hopkinton keeper. All three had to shake the cobwebs out, and seemed to emerge with a couple bumps and bruises, but no serious injuries.

In an occasionally oddly called game, the referee called the end of the half, then brought the players back on for another couple minutes.

When the 1st half started again, the Red Cobras drove down the Hopkinton end again. Desmond kept the ball through a number of collisions with Hopkinton defenders and sent in a shot that was deflected by the keeper. Nick A was right there to send in the rebound but it went wide. Well played though. Nick A was right where he should have been.

Just before the actual end of the half, Nick A sent a nice pass up to Nick K who brought the ball up. He waited just long enough until both Mike L and Desmond were onside before threading a perfect pass to Desmond who drilled a shot past the keeper to put the Red Cobras up 2-1.

In the second half, the Red Cobras came on strong again. A long pass was sent to Mike L up the right side. Mike L managed to catch it (the gale force winds were taking the ball all day) and sent in a great cross to Desmond who got off a shot, but the Hopkinton keeper stopped it.

Later, Nick A again got the ball up to Desmond. The Red Cobras now had Mike L, Desmond and Nick A in a 3 on 2 situation. The Hopkinton keeper was a little too far out and Desmond chipped the ball over his head for his third goal of the game to put he Red Cobras up 3-1.

The Red Cobras got another good chance when Nick K brought the ball up and was coming across from left to right and got off a shot, but it went wide. The Red Cobras offense sent in a number of shots today and kept the Hopkinton keeper quite busy.

After having a few rough moments on defense, Erik had the ball in the middle of the field and sent a great chip shot to Mike L at the top of the 18-yard box. With a defender right on him, he fed the ball to Desmond who was now alone against the keeper and put the ball into the net for his 4th goal of the game putting the Red Cobras up 4-1.

Later, Josh sent a long free kick that really went with the wind down the right side. Mike L used his speed to catch the ball before it went out and sent in a cross that the wind took right to the net, but the Hopkinton keeper was there for the save.

With only seconds left in the game, the Red Cobras were storming in the Hopkinton end of the field. Erik came up with the ball and sent in a good shot that was deflected by the keeper. Nick A was there for the rebound, but his shot went wide to the right.

Game Summary For

Nashua Red Cobras (2) vs. Seacoast (0)

The Red Cobras met a strong Seacoast team on the cold, wet fields of Mines Falls in Nashua.

Seacoast came out strong at the start and managed a quick 3 on 2 break. Erik managed to get back just as the Seacoast player was taking his shot and blocked it with his leg.

On a nice early show of teamwork, a few of the Red Cobras broke down the field. Desmond passed the ball to Joseph and ran in allowing Joseph to give the ball right back to him. This left Desmond alone with the keeper, but the Seacoast keeper was there to make the save.

On their next run down the field, Joseph sent a long shot in from outside the box and it went off the crossbar. Jonathan was there to try for the rebound, but the Seacoast keeper made the save on Jonathan's attempt.

On a free kick by the Red Cobras from outside the center of the 18-yard box, Josh sent a great long shot in over the keepers head, but it went just over the crossbar. Very nice shot and very close to going into the net.

On another good piece of teamwork, Jonathan took a pass, tapped it back to Eric who sent a one touch pass to the left side, over the Seacoast defenders, leading Desmond perfectly. Desmond took the ball further up the left and sent in a strong shot that looked to be heading into the net, but it went just behind the net.

Seacoast came down the field strong and in a flurry in front of the Red Cobras net, Nick K and a Seacoast player hit the ball at the same time in the 6-yard box and it shot up into the air. A Seacoast player headed it over Alec's head, but it went off the crossbar. On the rebound, another Seacoast player dove and headed the ball again, but it went just wide of the net.

Midway through the first half, Erik went in net in place of Alec.

Jonathan took a pass from the midfield and chipped a perfect pass to Desmond, but Desmond held on to the ball a little too long and the keeper grabbed it before he could get a shot off.

Shortly after that, Eric beat a Seacoast player to a free ball and sent a great leading pass to Desmond who beautifully chipped a shot over the keeper and into the back of the net to put the Red Cobras up 1-0.

Randy and Eric again played very well in the midfield.

Erik's only tests in net were 2 long strong shot that he easily stopped.

In the second half, Jonathan replaced Erik in net. Seacoast came out strong right away and controlled the first few minutes but threatened only once. On a long cross in front of the net, Jonathan went to grab it in the air, but collided with a Seacoast player and the ball was briefly loose. One of the Red Cobras managed to clear it.

The Red Cobras struck again on a great lading pass from Nick A to Desmond. This time, Desmond had a defender on him the whole time. He pushed the ball up ahead of himself, drawing the Seacoast keeper out. As he reached the ball, he shuffled around the keeper, with the defender still on him and touched the ball into the net to put the Red Cobras up 2-0.

There were a few more chances for both sides, but no more scoring and the game ended in a Red Cobras victory; 2-0.

Game Summary For

Nashua Red Cobras (3) vs. ConVal (3)

The Red cobras traveled to Dublin on Mother's Day to face ConVal. This team gave the Red Cobras one of their most exiting games in the Fall. It was no different today as two well matched teams tied 3-3.

Jonathan started in net for the Red Cobras today.

The Red Cobras started off strong with Alec taking the opening drive up the right side with a defender on him. As he moved toward the end line the ConVal defender tripped him. Erik took the free kick and sent a great cross into the box, but no Red Cobras were able to get it.

On the Red Cobras first goal, Randy threw the ball into Desmond who received it, faked past 3 ConVal defenders inside the 18-yard box. He had the ball on his right foot, stopped to adjust for his left foot which faked the keeper out and he put the ball into the net at the near post. Red Cobras up 1-0.

ConVal came back quickly with a goal of their own. There was a small flurry at the right side of the 18-yard box and a ConVal player took a shot which Jonathan was ready for, but the ball deflected off the shoulder or back of a Red Cobra player and Jonathan didn't have a chance to get it.

In a good show of passing and teamwork, Erik sent a free kick from our end up to Randy who got past a ConVal defender and sent a great pass up to Desmond who quickly passed it off to Nick A, but the ConVal keeper got there before Nick A could get off a good shot. Very nice teamwork on that play.

The Red Cobras managed to set up a number of good attempts with some good passing. Desmond, Nick A and Randy all had shots on net that the ConVal keeper stopped.

Mike L played well again with his all around hustle and passing. One on occasion he sent in a nice cross that Joseph attempted to head into the net, but Joseph collided with Nick A and the ball was grabbed by the ConVal keeper. Still, very well played by the Red Cobras.

The first half ended with the score tied 1-1. In the second half, Shawn replaced Jonathan in net.

ConVal quickly came out strong at the start of the second half and managed a quick break leaving a Conval player 1 on 1 against Shawn, but the ConVal shot was well wide to the left.

On an interesting corner kick play, Erik opted not to send in a long kick, but instead sent a short pass to a Nick K on the left side. As the ConVal players converged on Nick K, he passed back to Erik who was now at the edge of the 18-yard box. Erik sent a cross into a crowd at the center of the goal. Joseph had a shot that was blocked out to the right where Eric ripped off a shot that was stopped by the ConVal keeper. An interesting and well done play.

After numerous chances, the Red Cobras finally found the back of the net again when Eric sent in a nice pass to Desmond who quickly sent in a shot from inside the 18-yard box. A ConVal player blocked the shot, but it came right back to Desmond who popped it right into the net to put the Red Cobras up 2-1.

ConVal quickly came back when they managed to break past the Red Cobras defense. Randy came screaming back to help and somehow managed to get a foot in the ball as the ConVal player kicked it. Shawn went for the shot, but it deflected off the post, went straight across the mouth of the goal and sat there as bodies were flying everywhere to get to the ball. A ConVal player managed to get to the ball first and punched it into the net to tie the score at 2-2.

Late in the second half ConVal managed another score. Shawn blocked the initial shot but could not hang onto it and a ConVal player got to it to put it in the net before a Red Cobra defender could get there. ConVal up 3-2.

The Red Cobras had a number of very good chances, but had trouble finishing.

With only a minute or two left in the game, A Red Cobras player got off a shot that was deflected to the left where Eric was waiting at the top of the 18-yard box. He drilled a one touch left footed shot that curved high and to the right over the ConVal keepers head to tie the score 3-3.

Game Summary For

Nashua Red Cobras (6) vs. Tri-Town (5)

Tri-Town was the first game of the Fall season and the Red Cobras first reglar season loss. In that game they outplayed Tri-Town, but lost 0-1.

This year Tri-Town was a much better team, but the Red Cobras prevailed in a tough 6-5 win.

The game started out with a lot of back and forth by each team. The first significant chance was on a corner kick by Josh that he drilled on the ground. It went past everyone, including two Red Cobras.

Tri-Town scored first on a very long shot that Jonathan jumped for and got a hand on. The ball landed just in front of the goal line. Both Adam and a Tri-Town player were there waiting. Adam attempted to kick it out but it bounced off the Tri-Town player and he pushed it into the net; 0-1.

Desmond had a great scoring chance after coming up the left side. He sent in a good shot past the keeper but a defender was there to kick it out.

Tri-Town struck again when one of their forwards managed to get past the Red Cobras defense and ended up 1-on-1 against Jonathan who had no chance as the Tri-Town player sent the ball into the lower left corner of the net; 0-2

Desmond got the Red Cobras on the board after some nice back and forward passing by the Red Cobras. Joseph ended up sending a good long ball to Desmond who beat the keeper, sending the ball into the right side of the net; 1-2.

The Red Cobras continued to generally dominate play in the first half and continued to have chances to score, but could not finish.

Josh played very well today, serving up a number of good corner kicks and free kicks. On one of the corner kicks, the Red Cobras got their second goal. Josh sent a fantastic corner kick into the center of the net. After a brief flurry, Mike L popped it in to tie the score at 2 each.

In the second half, the Red Cobras started strong right from the start, but Tri-Town began playing 5 defenders back, making things very difficult for the Red Cobras.

Joseph put the Red Cobras up by 1 after a deflected ball came back to him at the top of the 18-yard box. He immediately sent a long high shot in (the only way to beat the packed Tri-Town defense) over the keepers head; 3-2.

Mike F gave a lesson on how to "take one for the team". Jonathan had come way out to the side to clear a ball, but his clearance went right to a Tri-Town player who wasted no time in ripping off a shot to the open net. Mike F stepped in front and took the shot off the face to deflect it away.

One of the more novel plays of the afternoon was free kick sent in by Erik that Desmond attempted to bicycle kick into the net. He got off a good shot, but it went wide.

Thr Red Cobras got on the board again when Tri-Town passed the ball back to set up a play and Desmond read it perfectly, stepping in front to block the kick. Mike L took the deflection from Desmond down the right side and ripped off a shot to the far post. Red Cobras up, 4-2.

Shortly after that goal, Tri-Town came right back. Tri-Town got the back up towards the 6-yard box and the Red Cobras could not clear the ball out. A Tri-Town played drilled a shot that went high, hit the crossbar and went down behind Jonathan who had no chance at that ball; 4-3.

Mike F came up big again when Tri-Town again got the ball into the 6-yard box. They sent the ball across the box and Mike F cleared it just before a Tri-Town player was about the take a shot.

Desmond scored again on a great leading pass from Joseph up the middle. Desmond got past the Tri-Town defenders and easily beat the keeper to put the Red Cobras up 5-3.

The slug fest wasn't over as Tri-Town came right back with another goal. It was a shot on which Jonathan made a very nice kick-save attempt, but the ball went in; 5-4.

Jonathan, nursing some bruised ribs, was replaced in net by Adam miway through the second half. Unfortunately Tri-Town came right at Adam with another flurry in front of the net that the Red Cobras defense could not clear - Tri-town scored to tie the game at 5.

With only a few minutes remaining, the Red Cobras had a few chances to score, but nothing came of them, until there was less than two minute to go. Erik took a free kick from just beyond the top right corner of the 18-yard box. He sent the into the penalty area where the ball deflected off of someone and Desmond sent it into the net to set the final score at 6-5.

Although the Red Cobras were missing Randy today, Eric continued his usual exceptional play (he was all over the field) and Joseph and Nick K also came up big in midfield.

Game Summary For

Nashua Red Cobras (4) vs. MYA (3)

The Red Cobras played Merrimack (MYA) while down a man for the entire game. Four of the Red Cobras did not make the game, leaving the team with only 10 players. MYA had a full complement of players and 2 subs. Still, the Red Cobras outplayed MYA and walked away with a 4-3 win.

MYA got on the board first as the Red Cobras defense was caught watching instead of playing just outside the 6-yard box, allowing a MYA player as easy shot into the far corner that Jonathan was unable to stop.

The Red Cobras came right back as Erik took the ball in the midfield and sent a great leading pass to Desmond who beat the MYA defenders and, in a 1-on-1 with the keeper, easily put the ball into the net.

Very shortly after that goal, the Red Cobras struck again as Erik had the ball on the right side near the top of the 18-yard box and sent a square pass to Desmond in the middle. Desmond wisely chose to fire off the shot right away and got it past the MYA keeper to put the Red Cobras up 2-1.

The Red Cobras defense looked flat early on in the first half, but began to play much better in the latter part of the half. Because they were a little more solid around the 18-yard box, MYA had trouble getting in. One of their players seemed to realize this and took a very long shot that went high over Jonathan to tie the score at 2 each.

The Red Cobras continued to have many chances to score, with shot after shot stopped by the very good MYA keeper.

Towards the end of the half, Desmond was taken down inside the penalty area. The subsequent penalty shot was sent wide.

In the second half, Erik replaced Jonathan in net. Most of the second half was played in MYA's end of the field as the Red Cobras did an excellent job of controlling the ball.

The Red Cobras scored again on a rather unusual play. Josh stopped a clearance by MYA outside the 18-yard box and duffed the kick to send it back in, but it went right to Randy, who passed to Desmond. Desmond's shot was also duffed (apparently catching the MYA keeper off guard), and dribbled past the keeper to the far corner to put the Red Cobras up 3-2.

Josh had a couple very nice corner kicks, placing the ball right in front of the net. One of his corner kicks went to the far side of the net where Nick A was waiting. He immediately sent in a shot, but it was a little wide.

Mike F, Jonathan, Nick A, Eric and Desmond continued some nice passing and play setup that resulted in some good shots, but the MYA keeper continued to deny the Red Cobras another goal.

Erik's first serious test in net was on a point blank shot that he stopped but could not get a handle on. He immediately got set for the next shot from another player. The shot was well to Erik's left, but Josh put himself in perfect position to kick the shot away and deny MYA a goal.

MYA took a page out of the Red Cobras playbook as they sent a long leading pass to their forward. Erik was well out of the net at the time, began to charge the player, but opted to pull back in hopes that the closest Red Cobra defender would stop the player. The MYA player ended up in a 1-on-1 with Erik and put the ball in to the top right corner to tie the game at 3 each.

The Red Cobras got back on top on a free kick from Josh from almost midfeld. He sent the ball dead center on the net and just under the crossbar where the MYA keeper couldn't touch it. Red Cobras up 4-3.

Towards the end of the game, Josh had another corner kick that Eric headed back to the net, but the MYA keeper managed to stop it. The game ended with the Red Cobras up 4-3.

Hudson scored first on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. The kick sailed over Jonathan's head and into the net.

It took a little while, but the Red Cobras came back. They did a fine job controlling the ball. Eric sent a good leading pass up to Alec who ended up alone against the keeper. He did a sliding kick, sending the ball over the keeper's head and into the net to tie the score at 1 each.

In the second half, Erik replaced Jonathan in net.

Right away in the second half, Desmond took the ball up the left side, but held onto it a little too long and his shot went into the outside of the net.

Jonathan showed why we like him as much on the field as we do in net. He led a 4-on-0 attack with Desmond, Eric and Mike L who all managed to get past the Hudson defense. Jonathan controlled the ball and put it into the net to put the Red Cobras up 2-1.

Shortly after that goal, Joseph sent a nice pass into to Desmond who raced past the Hudson defense and put the ball into the back to the net to put the Red Cobras up 3-1.

Hudson came back with an odd shot from the corner that went over Erik's head and into the net.

Hudson struck again as the Red Cobras defense broke down a little and allowed a close shot that tied the game at 3 each.

Mike L broke down the field past the Hudson defense with Desmond in tow. Mike L gave the ball to Desmond who dodged around the keeper and put the ball into the net to put the Red Cobras up 4-3.
